Letters to John Crosby Freeman, 1973-1987.

Consists primarily of letters sent by John Maass to John Freeman pertaining to Maass' publishing ventures with the American Life Foundation. In particular, Maass set forth his plans for translating a three volume work by Eduard Fuchs (Sex: A Social History), including drafts of the translation of the introduction, and his ideas for a compilation of some of his articles. Maass and Freeman also exchanged information on art catalogs and book reviews. A few of the letters accompanied royalty checks for A Glorious Enterprise. The collection also contains correspondence from the Library of Congress regarding the copyrights on Maass' books. Additionally, several of the letters pertain to a manuscript Maass was preparing on Munkácsy.

John Maass was an author and architectural historian. He was born in Vienna and fled with his family to England to escape the Nazis. He came to the United States in 1941 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1945. After the war, Maass was employed by the N.W.
